Artist Statement

Shadow photograph on a paved sidewalk: The shadow of the photographer Ulrich Wollborn is visible.

My photography explores the stories and structures of urban spaces. To me, these are more than mere buildings; they reflect social dynamics, cultural identities, and human presence. Through the reduction to black and white, a focused attention on light, shadow, and form, as well as the use of experimental perspectives and reflections, I aim to reveal the complexity and multifaceted nature of these spaces.

My work exists at the intersection of documentary and contemporary photography. While I employ elements of documentary approach to accurately capture real urban situations, my focus is clearly on a contemporary visual language. I strive to reflect current social and aesthetic questions through a modern, experimental perspective, opening up new ways of seeing urban environments.

The photographic series and projects are conceived narratives that investigate urban structures, decay, and human traces in their complexity. Through a serial approach, a narrative depth emerges that connects individual moments and offers new perspectives on urban reality.

I invite viewers to pause, look more closely, and discover the city with fresh eyes—as a living, constantly evolving organism that shapes and influences us all.
